All the parols in the Bellarmine field are really attractive and attention-grabbing but my favorite one is the parol made by the Ateneo Grade School. When you look at the Bellarmine field, the first parol that you would see would probably be this…

December 27, 2013

When my friends and I were all huddled into the taxi cab I told the driver to take us to the People Power Monument, there was a pause and then his face writhed in confusion. At first I thought he found it unsual that we were heading to a monument,…

the road to recovery

“Ladies and gentlemen in a few short minutes we would be landing on the runway of Daniel Z. Romualdez airport. Please wait until the fasten seatbelt sign has been switched off to claim your overhead baggage. Just sit back, relax and enjoy the ride.”

I sat straight and looked out the window. In a…

Almost There

vianccimorales:

Before the Christmas Eve mass at the Church of the Gesu, my cousins, little brother, and I decided to walk around the Bellarmine field to gaze through the magnificent parols that the different departments of the Ateneo have made. We were all so amazed at how these parols made us feel that…

First Interview: Wrong Diagnosis

ventan:

The hospital has remained almost the same. The rustic smell of the place, clogged and mossy pond, faded wall paints and the never-ending cries of newborn babies had essentially lingered and remained in the place.

What one fails to realize is that the power is in the hands of the people and not in the hands of the government. The People Power Monument is a clear remembrance of the days the FIlipinos have resisted to be put on a leash by their government. The monument, found on EDSA, was made in 1993 by Ed Castrillo to commemorate the People Power Revolution which happened in February 1986. (Shrines and Monuments). Although the longing for peace has been realized through the success of the People Power Revolution, to this day we still strive for peace whether it is peace between government and people, peace between ourselves and peace between us and our foreign brothers. Last June 15, 2013 soldiers traded in their guns for paintbrushes and civilians came to help with the world’s longest peace mural that was painted on the walls of a rather unexpected area, the walls of Camp Aguinaldo.  (Alexis Romero, 2013)

“The purpose of the project is to build the culture of peace. We are using the walls to convey the message to the public so they’ll be aware that everybody is a stakeholder of our peace efforts,” said Maj. Harold Cabunoc, chief of the Armed Forces 7th civil-relations group. (Alexis Romero, 2013)

For AG Saño though he hopes that the colourful and lovely images on the murals would affect the viewers and motivate them to do good. (Julie M. Aurelio, 2013)
